In July 2005, the MGHerring Group—the developer of the center—announced that it would be built in the upcoming months and would have a grand opening of 2007. Construction initially started in October 2005. During mid-2006, however, construction came to a halt. Due to a lack of a blueprint for the center, the opening was postponed. The center is currently owned by Dallas-based MGHerring Group.
After the announcement of the coming of Bass Pro Shops, the format of the Village of Riverwatch changed. Now it is proposed to have both an upscale lifestyle center and a power center theme.
The Village at Riverwatch is located on River Watch Parkway along the banks of the Augusta Canal. The shopping center will be visible along Interstate 20 at Exit 200.
